I gotta admit I really am a family centered person and I kinda dig this kind of a movie, though I'm not a huge fan of it. I also realize this blog lacks of typical teenager-drama-like film reviews, don't you think? So, I'm gonna make one for you, I think Ramona and Beezus is quite worth the watch, especially for kids and teenagers-duuuh, no actually it will be loved by all ages. This film adaptation from Ramona series of novels by Beverly Cleary highlights the relationship and ordinary picture of a typical American light-hearted family of Ramona Quimby’s (Joey King) limitless adventures. Her antic, unique and boundless energy personality always causes troubles and messes around her, making her responsible to clean them up at the end. With her big sister, Beatrice, nick-named Beezus (Selena Gomez), she tries very hard in her ridiculous yet smart and fun own ways to put her family back together as problems start to arise.
One thing to say from this movie is, great casts! I can't help but loving Joey King's performance as Ramona which was pure innocent and sweet. She excellently and convincingly played the little brat of a third grader character alive. We all once kids right? No matter how old we've grown up, we are all still sisters, brothers, friends, cousins, then parents and grandparents. It's totally normal when you feel you're not being understood because you want to take part in helping your family issues and sometimes it seems that all your efforts are underestimated as you're still a kid. We’ve been through that kind of real life problems, so as you go along the movie you’ll like... "yeah, exactly," and "that’s so true, or even me!" At least that's what happened to me.
John Corbett as the head of the family himself is very reassuring and unbelievably calm. It’s just like I would have expected from a dad, camouflaging his problems by telling things are gonna be okay to the children, even he always added humor to lighten up their days. Selena alone played a sweet and nice sister, and yeah sometimes she could be very annoying and mean too to her little sister, but she loved her sister very much, even cared a lot! However, I think there will be less laughing in here compared to when you’re watching Wizards of Waverly Place. Mostly, people are gonna watch because of this Disney Channel movie star, nothing more than that at the end. Nothing extraordinary they said.
Beezus: "Ramona, you're your own person. You don't care about coloring inside the lines," Ramona: "It really depends on the picture," |
Let me tell you why, may be this movie is a kind of happy ending story; how things ended well, problems are resolved morally well and basically a clean family show, but I'm sure it will definitely lighten up your mood. Moreover, the visuals and music really support the movie as Ramona's vivid imagination is represented in such a refreshing and lovely ways. Despite being rated G, somehow I like how the contrast of the color blend together. Obviously, you can tell that values are a must to be included inside the package of this realistic and simple story line so as to make this movie a healthy choice for kids – no shirtless werewolf or epic wizard battle, just simply learning creativity from a bright and full of spirits child. Easily guessed for sure, but you will find yourselves craving for more and more of Ramona's actions which was full of sense of humor, carefully put in a right amount.
So, curious for Ramona’s charming and extraordinary actions? Go see for yourselves. Or just pass this one and better save your time to watch other thrilling, box office movies instead, as it's highly not recommended for you who can’t stand a movie without the thrills and tension as you'll easily be bored.
