I'm not a big fan of superhero movies. I enjoy it, and on some cases I may love it. But I'm no fan because I'm tired of clinging my hopes up for a good adaptation. Green Hornet. I've ever heard of it before. And when I saw the poster, I'm a little confused because none of them are trying to dress up like a usual super hero. Unusual. I thought "Wow, they're doing something new here. Probably it's kind of cool, and look at that car!". Well guess what? This movie is very usual. There. Once more I get my hopes let down.
"The high point might be the opening scene, before the stars arrive on screen." - Liam Lacey, The Glove and Mail (Toronto)
The one thing I love about the whole movie performance is: James Franco's cameo. James Franco's scene is quite fresh and funny, and at times made me want to throw my shoe at the screen. Believable. Sadly, he's NOT one of the main characters of this movie. Seth Rogen's performance is quite fresh, and same goes to Jay Chou - we're talking about new faces here. Sadly, at times, what they say - their dialogues are trying so hard to be funny and comical and it turns out rather sad like and pushing it. Their acting is overall good, but not great, and they really could do better. But the lines and some scenes in the movie is more awkward then funny. Their chemistry is quite well. But again, it misses their target. It is more 'hey-there's-a-couple-of-two-dorks' rather than 'hey-it's-them-let's-duck-and-cover'. You know what I'm saying? The other great thing about this movie is Christoph Waltz's portrayal as the enemy. He really do look dumb, and that did it. He brings out a new personality for a villain, something fresh because that's what this movie really needs. The Green Hornet is more of a comedy movie, a little bit missing out their hit target (the poster and trailer make the movie seems more darker and edgier), so they should've been very all out about it. They should bring out more fresh comedy and honesty. Cameron Diaz is still, Cameron Diaz and she did an OK job here. She's smart, pretty, and witty. Nothing's wrong here.
"The movie lopes along from one half-baked scene to the next, interrupted on occasion by car-porn sequences." - J.R. Jones, Chicago Reader
What I hate about the movie, is that it's so American, it's almost a crime. Not that I have anything against the Americans. What I mean is the plot and the visuals. The plot is typical, an undercover duo trying to good things and fight evil because heir bored with their life. It usually involves a so-so normal character, experiences a series of events like death of a relative, a tragedy or disaster that hit loved ones, or simply boredom. Then they did it and the master of all the evilness around start to hate them. Then some cool fighting scenes. The evil dudes are so dumb and outsmarted. A little surprise near the end. Then long story short, the bad guy loses and there's a little comedy or laughter towards the ending. Movies like Kick-Ass did it in a very awesome and ass-kicking attitude. But this movie is so typical, I guessed the ending right in the first 40-50 minutes of the movie (I guessed the ending would involved either coffee or injector seat). The visuals is very good it's almost boring. Well it kinda is. Police car chase, gun fight, a 'wreck-the-whole-room' fight scene that's (supposed to be) funny, car doors - basically car parts just floating everywhere. I gotta tell you, there will be no expensive and gorgeous cars in Hollywood that will be left unharmed, or police cars for that matter.
"The Green Hornet doesn't suck. But don't expect it to hang together either, what with the clashing tones and melting logic." - Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
The music for this movie is not bad and match very well with the scenes of the movie. But it's also quite typical , not bad, but very common and forgettable. Nothing really special there. All in all, this is an Ok movie. Typical movies are not my taste because there's too much movies that looked the same. It's an entertaining movie if you love this type of action sequence but I didn't enjoy it very much. Seth Rogen is pretty amusing though, I mean I hope he focuses on comedy more and do better in the future. Because he's quite an interesting person that Hollywood can enjoy having him around.
