I haven't watched the original 1978 version of I Spit On Your Grave. But when I am watching this movie, there's something quite off with the performance. Sarah Butler reminds me of Kristen Stewart and Drew Barrymore at the same time, but unfortunately, that pretty face is not enough. This is a rape-revenge movie. Her 'revenge' acting is swell. She shows no mercy and look so in to it, like some kind of psychotic girl she is portraying. But her 'revenge' acting, she's not that in to it. She really is trying too hard to look scared and threatened, but never actually letting go and showing that. There's little honesty and willingness to it, but I really think she has her potential. As for the rest, they act quite well. They shows the bastards and jerk offs they are, and made ME want to participate in the 'revenge' part. This movie stands for a big metaphor of feminism, I think. Where females now are taking back their rights, instead of used for sex objects.
This is a remake AND also a slasher movie, so there's not really a high standard for the plot since the gore is here for entertainment. It's actually what the movie is, here for entertainment. The music is indifferent, it doesn't give any chills but there for essentials. The visuals are...stunning? The gory effects, the darkness and loneliness off the cabin and the woods, the blood, it looks realistic. The sadistic parts made me cringe a few times, well, a lot of times and I ended up puking in the end of the move (not really a fan of slasher film, but I keep watching to entertain my curiosity and testing my courage). Overall, this is a so-so movie. You need to buy this movie if you're looking for entertainment because this is a no-brainer. And there's nothing wrong with that. Sometimes we need to watch movies for the sake of having fun without really looking in too deep to it. This is a fun movie.
